Our second wedding anniversary is coming up in August, and we will always remember the lovely ceremony Rev. Achala performed for us. Harvey and I met in Florida but came to his apartment in New York for the ceremony so his family could attend. Since I was new to New York, I didn't have a church to call on for a minister, so I called the Interfaith Center, and Achala was referred to us.
Rev. Achala explained that it was his very first wedding since he had just been ordained. Since we had both been widowed multiple times, we assured him we knew the ropes and we'd walk him through it!
He came to meet us and go over the ceremony, and he had a number of choices for us. We selected one of his ceremonies, combined it with the lovely passage from I Chronicles declaring "without love I am nothing," which my two daughters read.
My sister sang a solo accompanied by the groom's grandson, and 20 family members agreed that it was the most beautiful wedding ever with Rev. Achala standing against a background of large windows looking out on the Empire State Building.
We are eternally grateful for Rev. Achala's part in the joining of two 82-year-olds who are still very much in love.
